Bolton Quarry Driveway Rebuilding Campaign
Updated: September 13, 2011
Thanks to the speedy work of the contractor, the Quarry Driveway reopened in June.
Now, the focus turns to fundraising. In addition to pursing grants, we're planning fundraising events in September and beyond. Stay tuned!
Flash flood limits access to some of the best rock and ice climbing in Chittenden County
Dear friends of CRAG-VT,
Due to extremely heavy rains on the night of April 26, the driveway leading to the popular Bolton Quarry climbing area sustained severe damage. At the current time the road is impassable to vehicle traffic and even difficult for foot travel to the quarry. (Check out the photos.)
After reviewing all the options, it’s become clear that rebuilding the flood-damaged driveway is required. To make this convenient and popular climbing resource easily accessible once more, CRAG-VT is launching the Bolton Quarry Driveway Rebuilding Campaign. The goal is to raise $16,295 to cover the cost of the project.
Please donate online today or mail your check to
CRAG-VT, P.O. Box 614, Richmond, VT 05477. If you're not already an active member, please become a member or renew now to support stewardship and protection of our local crags—plus get discounts at several local outdoor shops.
Work will begin as soon as possible and is expected to be completed by the end of June. While CRAG-VT dips into its “rainy day fund” (and boy, did we have a rainy day!) and continues to pursue grants, we’re counting on current and new CRAG-VT members to chip in on this fundraising campaign and to demonstrate community support in our grant writing and access efforts.
Bolton Quarry driveway scope of work:
- Install 500 cubic yards of gravel in washed-out sections of road and compact with roller;
- Install crusher run gravel on 837 feet of road and shape, crown and compact with roller;
- Install water bars where needed to divert water off road;
- Materials $10,175; equipment and labor $6,120.
- Work to be completed by Spence Brothers.
Thanks so much for your support of climbing access in Vermont!
Sincerely,
Seth Maciejowski
President, CRAG-VT
