Current Projects

  • Working with the Town of Bolton, private landowners and the Vermont Land Trust to transfer Upper West Bolton cliff onto public land with enduring protections for climbing, recreation and environmental conservation.

  • Serving as a liaison between the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources and the climbing community to ensure that climbing activities on state lands are done in a responsible fashion consistent with the states environmental and recreation management plans.

  • Assisting the Vermont Nongame and Natural Heritage Program in their ongoing efforts to protect the threatened and endangered species that thrive on and around our state's cliffs and climbing areas.

  • Building and strengthening our climbing community; encouraging climbers to enjoy and protect our states fantastic climbing resources.

  • Continuing to work with the state on Lake Willoughby Management Plan and Smugglers Notch Projects

Accomplishments

  • Working with Bolton Conservation Commission to secure climbing by obtaining easements on Double-Upper and Upper-West through Duck Brook Conservation project

  • Bolton Quarry Project - completed December 20, 2004

  • March 27, 2004 Everest Challenge: CRAG-VT hosts its first climbation. More than 70 climbers ascended a group total of 29,035 ft—the height of Mt. Everest—at Petra Cliffs and raised more than $8,500 towards the Quarry Project!

  • June 28th, 2003 Lower West Celebration Day: With the large number of motivated participants, we were able to construct rock bars to stabilize existing trails, brush out areas that need to revegetate, and construct a new trail to the top of the cliff (at the Harvest Moon end). A new sign was also installed which will soon contain information about the cliff and CRAG-VT.

  • Lower West Bolton Donation - completed May 21, 2003, grand opening and trail day June 28th

  • Secured permission to climb at Upper West

  • Provided input on Management Plan for Lake Willoughby Forest

  • Provided input on the Smugglers Notch Management Plan
